After being runner-up on two occasions and semi-finalist on another, no-one would begrudge the Gumatj Cavaliers taking out the 2017 Coca-Cola Hottest 7s in the World at Land Rover Rugby Park this weekend.
The Cavalier will be led by the incomparable Setefano Cakaunavalu, the former Fijian 7s Captain who led Tabadamu to victory last year, is the current Eric Johnston Medallist for Best & Fairest in the Darwin Competition and played an integral part of the Mosquitoes 4th placing at the National 7s.
The Cavaliers have recruited Emori Waqavulagi, Jone Vota, Teri Temani, Samu Bale and Apenisa Cakaubalavu from the Namosi Rugby Union in Fiji.
The line-up includes Kepueli F’au Lokitui, Paula Balekana and Jale Seninawanawa from the Hamilton Hawks Club in Newcastle.
The Hawks are the current Newcastle and Hunter Premiers.
The Cavaliers always include a few Northern Territory based players and this year have secured Wise Sekitoga, Poasa Naivalu, Joseva Tuisuva along with George Morseu from Yam Island in Torres Strait.
Lai Tora will coach the Team with Andrew and Jock McLeod managing.
The Cavaliers are in Pool A and will play the Eagle Warriors from Fiji, Northern Territory Mosquitoes and Cancer Council NT Cougars from Darwin.
